Subject: Looking for organisations to participate in an NGO/Data event.

Hi, _

I'm working with Hack Miramar to set up a series of events to help NGOs/Not-profits with their data questions and issues.

The idea was to get data folks and NGOs together to find ways to help them with data questions. It would be a couple hours in an evening where the NGOs could present their issue and the data folks would discuss possible approaches.

We're aiming to have our first event on Thu 27 Aug and are working on having 3 organisations represented.

Would you be able to suggest any organisations that may be interested in participating?

We've had a couple events like this in the past as Data Without Borders NZ.
Here is a link to the Meetup page with info about the previous events: http://www.hackmiramar.org/data-for-good/

We could also meet for coffee this week if you have more questions.

Cheers,

The idea is to get data folks and NGOs together to find ways to help them with data questions. It would be a couple hours in an evening where the NGOs could present their issue and the data folks would discuss possible approaches.

At the event last Thur we had Kathrine Mansfield Birthplace, who were looking for help finding a system to manage their membership and fundraising. And Summer of Tech, who were looking for ways to present info about their graduates to prospective employees.

The set up for the event is pretty simple. It runs for 2 hours from 6-8pm with beer and pizza provided. The organizations comes to event with a question and do a small presentation about who they are, what they do, and what their issue is. Once all the orgs present, the people in the audience (techy or interested people), split themselves into groups to go work on each org's question for about 45min. At the end we bring them back together and each group does a short presentation about what they talked about, options and next steps.

The orgs and participants can then exchange contact details and organize any further work if they want.

It's basically a free brainstorming/consulting session.

(link to event page)

Time: ----

Location: ---

Data For Good' Data Challenge Evening is a chance for social profit organisations to explore a how data could be used to solve a challenge they have. Data specialists, scientists, analysts, technicians, hackers and geeks are invited to join this process to share knowledge and design potential solutions.

People working for social profit organisations are welcome to share a brief description of any type of data challenge they may have to (email). On the evening we will help to scope full problem definitions for a selection of these challenges and then work together with the data specialists to propose solutions for challenges.

This is an opportunity for social profit organisations to get valuable expert advise to help accomplish their mission and for data specialists to learn more about these organisations and contribute to their great work.

Data For Good is a space for volunteers, supporters and staff of social profit organisations to come together with data specialists to share knowledge and explore how data can be used for good.
